12 AI Models Dropped in 7 Days and Nobody Can Keep Up Anymore

If you blinked last week, you missed about a dozen new AI models hitting the internet all at once.

Between March 1st and March 8th, at least 12 major AI releases dropped from companies including OpenAI, Alibaba, Meta, ByteDance, Tencent, and several universities. We're talking new language models, video generators, image editors, and 3D tools, all in seven days.

The biggest headline? OpenAI launched GPT-5.4, which they're calling their most capable model ever. It can process up to 1 million tokens of context (imagine feeding it an entire book and asking questions about page 347), makes 33% fewer factual errors than its predecessor, and costs just $2.50 per million input tokens through the API.

Meanwhile, Alibaba dropped Qwen 3.5, a series of smaller AI models so efficient that the 9-billion parameter version can run entirely on your phone while matching models 13 times its size. That's like a compact car keeping up with a semi truck.

On the video side, Lightricks released LTX 2.3, an open-source model that generates native 4K video at 50 frames per second with synchronized audio. And a team from Peking University and ByteDance unveiled Helios, which can generate minute-long videos in real time on a single GPU.

The pace of AI releases has gone from "a few big announcements per quarter" to "12 in a week." Keeping up is now officially a full-time job.
