Apple Is About to Let You Replace Siri With ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude on Your iPhone

Apple Is About to Let You Replace Siri With ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude on Your iPhone

Apple just made the most un-Apple move in years: they're opening up Siri to the competition.

With iOS 27, your iPhone will let you swap in rival AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude through a new "Extensions" system. Instead of being stuck with Siri's often frustrating limitations, you'll be able to plug in whichever AI brain you prefer.

But here's where it gets really interesting. Apple is also secretly building its own AI chatbot, codenamed "Campos," and it's reportedly powered by Google's Gemini technology. So Apple is simultaneously admitting Siri needs help AND building a replacement using a competitor's tech. That's a level of pragmatism we've never seen from a company that usually insists on doing everything in-house.

This is a massive shift in how your phone will work. Right now, if you ask Siri something complex, you usually get a web search or a confused response. With iOS 27, that same question could be routed to Claude or GPT, which are dramatically better at understanding context and giving useful answers.

For consumers, this is fantastic news. Competition between AI assistants on your own phone means better answers, more features, and companies actually fighting for your attention instead of having a captive audience.

The AI assistant war just moved from apps to the operating system level. And your iPhone is the battlefield.
