Amazon Is Making a Phone Again and Nobody Asked for This
Remember the Fire Phone disaster? Amazon apparently doesn't. Their new AI smartphone codenamed 'Transformer' is in the works.
If you're old enough to remember the Amazon Fire Phone, you probably also remember it being one of the biggest tech flops of the decade. It lasted about a year before Amazon quietly killed it off in 2015.
Well, they're trying again.
Reuters reported that Amazon has a new smartphone in development, codenamed "Transformer." And shocker of all shockers, it's going to be heavily focused on AI. Because of course it is.
Details are scarce right now. Nobody knows how much it'll cost, when it'll launch, or what exactly the AI features will be. But if you've ever talked to an Alexa device, you already know Amazon's playbook: get their AI assistant into as many gadgets as possible, and hopefully convince you to buy more stuff along the way.
The smartphone market is absolutely brutal. Apple and Samsung have had a stranglehold on it for years, and even Google struggles to make a dent with Pixel phones. Amazon trying to elbow their way back in with an AI-powered phone is either incredibly bold or incredibly foolish.
History suggests we might be able to pick these up for pennies on the dollar at clearance sales. But hey, maybe the second time's the charm. As reported by Reuters.
