The Woman Who Made AI Possible Just Raised a Billion Dollars to Build Something Completely Different

If you don't know Fei-Fei Li, you should. She created ImageNet, the massive image dataset that basically made modern AI possible. Every image recognition system, every self-driving car camera, every face filter on your phone traces back to her work.

Now she's raised one billion dollars for her startup World Labs, and she's not building another chatbot. She's building what she calls spatial intelligence, which is AI that understands the three-dimensional physical world.

Their first product, called Marble, generates full 3D environments from text or image prompts. Think about that. You describe a room, a building, a city, and the AI builds it in three dimensions.

The valuation is reportedly around five billion dollars, and investors are lining up because this is the next frontier after language models. Chatbots are great at words. But the real money is in AI that can understand and navigate the physical world, which is what you need for robotics, manufacturing, architecture, gaming, and basically everything else.

When the person who helped start the AI revolution says this is what's next, you pay attention.

As reported by Reuters and Bloomberg.
