India Just Hosted the World's Biggest AI Summit and the Announcements Are Wild

India just made a massive power play in the global AI race.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026, running February 16 to 20 in New Delhi, is the first major international AI summit ever hosted in the Global South. And India is using it to send a clear message: they want to be the world's AI hub.

Prime Minister Modi didn't hold back during his inauguration speech. He straight up invited the entire world to store their data in India, saying the country is "laying the foundation for a thriving AI ecosystem" by massively expanding computing power and data center infrastructure. He called data centers "a massive job creator" for India's youth.

Over 600 AI startups are showcasing their work at the expo, and world leaders from multiple countries showed up. Even French President Macron is expected to attend.

But the real show-stealer? A robot called CyRo, built by Indian startup CynLr, demonstrated what experts are calling the "holy grail" of robotics at its pavilion. The details are still emerging, but early reports suggest it performed manipulation tasks that robots have historically struggled with.

With over a billion people and a rapidly growing tech sector, India is betting big that AI will be its ticket to becoming a global superpower. This summit is their opening move.

As reported by Hindustan Times.
