Apple Just Told Siri to Step Aside: Your iPhone Will Soon Let You Pick ANY AI Assistant
iOS 27 will let Gemini, Claude, and other AI rivals compete directly inside your iPhone, ending Siri's monopoly forever.
Apple just made one of the boldest moves in its history, and it could completely change how you use your phone.
Starting with iOS 27, your iPhone won't be locked into using just Siri anymore. Apple is opening the door for competing AI assistants like Google's Gemini, Anthropic's Claude, and others to plug directly into your phone through a new system called Extensions.
Think of it like choosing your default browser, but for AI. Don't like how Siri handles something? Switch to Claude. Want Google's AI instead? Go for it. They'll all have deep access to your phone's features.
But here's the twist that nobody expected: Apple is also secretly building its OWN chatbot, codenamed "Campos," and it's reportedly powered by Google's Gemini technology. So Apple is simultaneously inviting competitors in while also building a Gemini-powered alternative to its own Siri.
Why would Apple do this? Because they know Siri has fallen behind. Rather than trying to catch up alone, they're turning the iPhone into a marketplace where the best AI wins. It's a classic Apple move: if you can't beat them, make them all compete on your platform.
For regular users, this means your phone is about to get dramatically smarter, and you'll actually get to choose which kind of smart you prefer.
