Samsung Is Teaming Up With Everyone to Crush Apple in the AI Phone War
While Apple is still figuring out its AI strategy, Samsung just signed deals with OpenAI, Perplexity, and others to turn Galaxy phones into the smartest devices on the planet.
The smartphone wars used to be about cameras, screens, and battery life. Not anymore. Now it's all about AI, and Samsung is making a bold play to win.
While Apple has been moving slowly and cautiously with its AI features (remember those Siri upgrades that keep getting delayed?), Samsung has taken the opposite approach. The company is partnering with multiple AI companies at once, including OpenAI (the makers of ChatGPT) and Perplexity (an AI-powered search engine that's been blowing up lately).
The strategy is called "multi-model AI," and the idea is simple: instead of building one AI assistant and hoping it's good at everything, Samsung is plugging in the best AI tools from different companies for different tasks. Need smart search? Here's Perplexity. Need creative writing help? Here's ChatGPT. Need on-device processing? Samsung has its own AI for that.
It's like having a team of specialists instead of one general practitioner.
Apple, by contrast, has been trying to build most of its AI capabilities in-house, which has led to delays and a perception that iPhones are falling behind on the AI front. The company is reportedly still working through partnerships and figuring out its approach.
For regular phone users, this means Galaxy phones could soon feel noticeably smarter than iPhones in day-to-day use. And in a market where most phones already have great cameras and screens, AI might be the thing that finally makes people switch.
