Elon Musk Is Building His Own Chip Factory and It Launches in 7 Days

Elon Musk just dropped a bombshell: Tesla is building its own AI chip factory from the ground up, and it's going live in just seven days.

The project is called Terafab, and it's basically Tesla saying 'we're tired of waiting in line for chips from other companies, so we'll make our own.' The facility is a state-of-the-art semiconductor plant designed to produce the custom AI chips Tesla needs for everything from self-driving cars to its humanoid robots.

Why does this matter? Right now, almost every company building AI depends on a handful of chipmakers (mostly NVIDIA) to supply the brains behind their technology. Tesla wants to break free from that bottleneck entirely. If Terafab works, Tesla could have a massive cost advantage over competitors who are still fighting over limited chip supplies.
